Questions to ask on a daycare tour

Prepared for Amiro’s families using Washington childcare guidance and Amiro’s verified policies. For questions about your child, speak directly with Fatima.

A tour should help you understand what an ordinary day feels like, not just show you a tidy room. Bring your important questions, look carefully, and notice whether the provider answers clearly and makes space for your concerns.

Confirm licensing and supervision

Ask to confirm the active license, licensed capacity, ages served, and who will care for your child. Ask how children are supervised during meals, outdoor play, naps, and transitions between rooms.

  • What is the license number and capacity?
  • How many children are usually present?
  • Who provides care if the main provider is unavailable?
  • How are authorized pickups checked?

Ask about the day your child will actually have

Talk through arrival, meals, play, learning, outdoor time, rest, and pickup. If your family needs nonstandard hours, ask exactly how evenings, overnight care, weekends, and schedule changes work.

Discuss health, food, and communication

Ask how illness, medication, allergies, safe sleep, injuries, and emergencies are handled. Find out what updates you will receive and how quickly the provider contacts families when something important happens.

Pay attention to how the space feels

Notice whether children can reach appropriate toys and books, whether sleep and diapering areas are orderly, and whether exits and outdoor areas feel secure. Most importantly, notice how the provider speaks to children and whether you feel comfortable asking follow-up questions.

Still have a question?

A visit is the easiest way to talk through your child’s routine and decide whether the home feels right.
