Share the real bedtime routine
Tell the provider what happens at home and in what order: dinner, bathroom or diaper change, brushing teeth, pajamas, story, lights, and any normal nighttime waking. A routine does not have to be perfect; it just needs to be clear.
Pack familiar and permitted items
Send comfortable pajamas and the supplies your provider requests. Ask before bringing blankets, pillows, toys, or sleep products, especially for infants, because licensed providers must follow safe-sleep rules.
- Labeled pajamas and a change of clothes
- Diapers or nighttime pull-ups if needed
- Toothbrush and other requested hygiene items
- Written medication or health instructions
- A permitted comfort item for an older child
Plan the handoff and morning pickup
Avoid making the first overnight handoff rushed. Tell your child who will be there when they wake up and when you will return. Confirm how the provider should reach you overnight and who is allowed to pick up in the morning.
